Azlan Thrilled To Be Back Out On Track
After a year-long enforced hiatus, defending Asian Superbikes champion Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman finally got the chance to get back on his BMW S1000RR when the Malaysia Superbike Championship organized a two-day Open Track Day at the Sepang International Circuit last weekend.
Azlan and the ONEXOX TKKR Racing Team seized upon the opportunity to do some much-needed setup work in preparation for the eventual start of the 2021 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship.
“This weekend, our objective was to continue the set-up work that was interrupted when the 2020 season had to be called off. I had only raced with the BMW S1000RR 2020 model once last year. To be honest, it was so powerful that I fought my bike all the way throughout last season’s one and only round.” said Azlan
Azlan also explained that team not focusing on lap times, but more or less about stability to keep pace at level best.
“We were not too concerned about improving lap times. Our first task was to tame that power, find more stability while keeping the speed. So far, we are happy with the progression of our work and the opportunity to test this weekend has really helped us better prepare for the start of superbikes racing this season,” he added.
Azlan’s best time from the weekend’s test was clocked at 2’07.948s.
